Diocese of Kisantu · Kongo-Central, D.R. Congo

Who we are

The Diocese of Kisantu

A recognized non-profit institution of the Democratic Republic of Congo, caring for both body and soul across the former Lukaya district.

Identity

A century of service

The Diocese of Kisantu ASBL is a recognized institution operating in the Democratic Republic of Congo as a non-profit organization. It received legal personality by decree no. 165 of February 3, 1962, and its printing house — the Kisantu Diocesan Printing Press, formerly SODAC — has operated since 1922.

The Diocese operates within its boundaries, covering the three territories of the former Lukaya District (Kasangulu, Madimba and Kimvula) and part of the Mont Ngafula commune in the city-province of Kinshasa. This area covers 31,000 km² and has a diverse population of nearly 10,000,000 inhabitants according to December 2020 statistics. The printing press itself, as a socio-economic unit, is open to the public and to organizations at the national level.

Priority sectors

The pastoral mission in practice

Evangelization

The Diocese oversees the spread of the Word and the strengthening of faith by establishing the conditions for this activity: training of pastoral agents, establishment of parishes, and allocation of human resources and equipment.

Education

A coordination body manages a network of over 300 primary and secondary schools. Adult education is provided through literacy centers, community centers, and training within religious movements and groups.

Human Development

Production, marketing, road and bridge construction, entrepreneurship, and environmental restoration — organized through the Caritas-Diaconia and Development Commission, with work in solidarity and sharing and in food security.

Health

Construction of hospital buildings and health centers, training of personnel, medical equipment, and public health information materials. The network includes two general referral hospitals and just over 40 health centers; St. Luke's Hospital in Kisantu has a strong national reputation for orthopedic care.
